Three discussions

Help me study for my English class. I’m stuck and don’t understand.

Discussion one:

Describe a perspective on quality from this week’s assigned readings that surprised you as something that you might not have been thinking of as part of the engineering view of quality. What did you read that you perhaps weren’t expecting?

Response Guideline

  • Your response to this topic should be roughly 200-300 words.
  • This topic does NOT require you to respond to anyone else in the class.
    • Optional responding to classmates is always strongly encouraged.
  • Include a specific citation (with exact page number) to the reading from which your observation is drawn.
    • Since there are 3 assigned readings, your citation will be one of the following:
      (Krishnamoorthi, 2019 p.XX), (Krishnamoorthi, 2011, p.XX), or (Sanders, 2006, p.XX)
    • No reference is needed since we don’t require references to assigned readings.

Discussion two:

Philip Crosby (1996-2001) famously coined the phrase “Quality is Free” in his popular book by that title in 1979.

Using the principles and categories of Quality Cost from the first chapter in Krishnamorthi, explain why that statement is true and how we need to discuss our investments in quality in order to be consistent with that viewpoint. Discuss the ways the relationships among the cost categories in our reading result in Crosby’s viewpoint being correct.

Response Guideline

Post your response of 1-3 paragraphs (about 100-200 words) by the due date for this discussion assignment, and then reply to at least two initial responses of your peers with 48-hours after the due date/time. Continue responding and discussing with your peers during the remainder of the week, particularly focusing on responses that might differ from your own. Also respond appropriately to anyone who posts questions against your own postings. Discuss the content! Keep responses focused on the substance of the issue, not simply on agreeing with a comment or encouraging each other.

Discussion three:

A societal system includes organismic systems, each of which will have their own purposes, and those purposes don’t always align or match those of the organization. Managers of an organization (societal system) need to consider the self-described purposes of their members (organismic systems) when establishing policies and procedures. Some managers don’t do this, setting policy and procedures based only on the immediate needs of the organization without regard to the members’ needs or interests. In effect, the people in the organization come to be viewed or treated as mechanical systems – serving an organizational function but having no purpose of their own.

Discuss some problems that you suspect might arise in an organization that effectively treats its people as mechanisms.
