For someone to live a healthy life, it is essential to understand that the aging process is more than getting older without any disease, but to advance in age with physical support, managing chronic conditions, and preventing new illnesses (Gronek et al., 2021). To fulfill the health promotion, patients have been relying on the primary care provider (PCP). One profession that has been increasing in demand for PCP is the nurse practitioner (NP) role. An NP is a registered nurse who advanced in the career and is trained to prevent, assess, diagnose, interpret diagnostic tests and treat disease based on nursing principles (Taylor et al., 2021).

In the 1960s, the NP role was created, and nowadays, there are more than 325.000 NP in the US (AANP, 2021) (Kilpatrick et al., 2021). One study showed that patients who preferred physicians as their primary care provider chose because of skills; meanwhile, patients preferred NP as their PCP because of their bedside manner (Leach et al., 2018). In many clinical settings, NP and physicians work in harmony and have as a priority a better outcome for the patient. Medical Doctors (MD) recognize the importance of NP for the work team and trust their decision by using collaborative practice (Poghosyan et al., 2017) (Renshaw, 2019).

In the next lines, we will discuss how to measure and monitor the quality of care delivered and the outcomes achieved by an Advanced Practice Nurse (APN).

First, to measure the competency of an APN, it is necessary to verify direct patient care. The immediate care process is defined as those patients who will receive direct clinical care by an APN. The population served, care, and procedures based on APN role, the scope of practice, and mission should be considered before implementing the care. Ongoing evaluation and regarding patient outcome and satisfaction is used to keep the quality and safety of care. After being verified to direct patient care, it is necessary to establish the mission, vision, and values of an APN practice, which will differentiate their practice from physician practices (Hanson & Bennett, 2013). When treating a patient, using a holistic approach is essential to increase patients’ involvement with their care. A clinician who profoundly understands that each patient is unique and has a different point of view, and diverse background, will provide better care for the patient, taking into account the patient’s values and beliefs (Jasemi, 2017).

Second, mechanisms of measurement and monitoring the quality of care of an APN involve validating the APN compliance with several ethical procedures and providing patients enough information to make an informed decision, compliance with the Health Insurance Portability Accountability Act (HIPAA), ensuring quality, safety and security, and capability of resolution of complaints (Hanson & Bennett, 2013).

Third, outcomes evaluation and ongoing performance assessment are crucial for the APN success. One method to monitor the patient outcome is using existing models. For example, using a model design by Holzemer in 1994 and adapted throughout the years. This model consists of inputs-context processes and outcomes of the patient, APN, and clinical settings. Another model used is the nurse practitioner role effectiveness model. In this model, the structure is composed of patient, APN, and organization variables, the process involves the role components, and the outcome is based on the quality and cost (Kleinpell & Aleandov, 2013).

Finally, another example of measuring and monitoring the outcomes achieved by an APN is using health care information technology to evaluate and improve patient outcomes. Regulatory reporting initiatives, like hospital inpatient quality reporting programs, home health quality reporting programs, and hospice quality reporting programs, may help enhance APN quality of care and patient outcome (Mahn-DiNicola, 2013). Those regulatory reporting programs reflect the APN interventions and, consequently, the patient outcome.

Nurses, are a key component in healthcare settings, specially when it comes to patient satisfaction, and patient wellness. They assume a vital part in the help, execution and assessment of eHealth applications to work on tolerant security and partake in the plan and activity of offices, hardware and work measures for wellbeing. Obligations incorporate purchaser focused care through frameworks and cycles that help shared deci-sion making, progression of care, open exposure, and affectability to the social necessities and wellbeing proficiency of patients. Further, nurses are relied upon to energize, take an interest in, and apply research proof to work on the security and nature of care and to show clinical authority.

The wide-going quality and security job assumptions for nurses expects the nursing labor force is prepared to satisfy its responsibilities, and is cognizant of those obligations. Apparently, the nature of healthcare might be compromised in case nurses don’t know about the expansiveness of their obligations, don’t acknowledge those responsibilities, or don’t feel prepared to satisfy those obligations. Nurses’ view of what establishes quality care might be viewed as an aberrant however instructive wellspring of data about saw jobs. Nurses have depicted their parts face to face focused care utilizing a scope of descriptors: ‘humanism and all encompassing care’, ‘understanding patient necessities and nobility’, ‘backing’, ‘nursing presence’ and ‘patient centeredness and connections’. Compelling correspondence and collaboration are additionally normal topics communicated by nurses in examinations investigating nurses’ view of value care. Different discoveries in the writing are nurses’ acceptance of the should be educated, gifted and able, to advance patient security; and, to hold fast to more extensive expert obligations, for example, ‘responsibility’. There is an absence of proof that nurses distinguish wide parts of clinical administration jobs, buyer interest and proof based practice inside their responsibilities regarding quality care. (Woo, Lee, & San Tam, 2017)

The nature of care conveyed and the results accomplished by an Advanced Practice Nurse is estimated through mirroring the medical care administration or rather the mediation of the patient wellbeing status. For example, the nature of care which is accomplished by the attendant should be possible through assessing the number or level of the patients who bite the dust while going through a medical procedure or after the medical procedure is performed. This will show the reach out at which the APN regulated care to the patient since when the medical procedures are ineffectively performed, consequently there will be higher death rates. Likewise the quantity of inconveniences or the contaminations that are gained in the clinic measure the sort of value care that is regulated to the patients.
