For each of the three concepts below, please provide a brief definition explaining the meaning of the concept.
For each concept, please provide an example from our course materials that helps to illustrate what the term means/why it is significant.
Readings, lectures, slides, clips/documentaries are all fair game for use as examples.
1.) Genetic Fallacy
2.) Reflexivity
3.) ‘Medicine as Social Science’ (Hint: this third ID is not a discrete term so much as a broader concept/theme we’ve been exploring across various course materials – a brief explanation works as a definition)
Part Two: Short Answer. 45 pts
After taking time to reflect upon our course materials and discussions so far, please compose a critical response to the following prompt.
Please be sure to address all portions of the prompt.
Approximate Length: 2-3 Paragraphs In-text citations/quotations are not required but are you are welcome to use them.
If direct quotes or paraphrases are included, please include brief citation information(e.g. last name, page number).
A separate works cited page is not required.
Short Answer Prompt
In Complaints and Disorders: The Sexual Politics of Sickness, Ehrenreich and English explore aspects of the U.S. medical professional landscape circa 1865-1920 (and beyond). Their central ‘big picture’ punchline is that gender has/does intersect with class/socioeconomic status (SES) and race. These intersections are patterned such that particular groups of women are conceptualized, understood, valued, and (mis)treated in particular ways vis-à-vis other women and others in society.
By way of our Complaints and Disorders reading, please identify and elaborate upon some of the assumptions and actions of historically held and/or taken by U.S. medical professionals with respect to:
1.) upper and upper-middle-class women (3 examples) and
2.) lower-class and poor women (3 examples)
In other words, please elaborate upon three ways that U.S. medical professionals have historically conceptualized, explained, and/or treated upper-class women and three ways that U.S. medical professionals have historically conceptualized, explained, and/or treated lower-class women. (Total of six examples)

STRATEGIC PLAN
A strategic plan is about thinking, organizing, and predicting, based on thoroughly grounded research and documentation. From your previous coursework of developing an outline, conducting a SWOT/PEST analysis, and developing a budget, you have the basis for compiling a full and complete strategic plan for your chosen organization.
Your strategic plan must consider the appropriate elements, depending on whether your plan is for a program or agency in a government, for-profit organization, nonprofit organization, or hybrid organization. Accordingly, your strategic plan will recognize the priorities, goals, and objectives of the appropriate organization. Remember that a normal timeframe for a strategic plan is five years, and for a short-range plan up to five years.
INSTRUCTIONS
For this assignment, create a strategic plan for your chosen organization. Your plan will have nearly all of the following components (headings), depending on whether you are preparing a public sector, private sector, civil society sector, or mixed (hybrid) plan. Include the following:
Format Structure:
Executive Summary.
Board Authorization of Strategic Plan (in the case of a corporation).
Organizational Description.
Mission, Vision, and Values.
Goals and Strategies.
Appendices:
A. Action Planning (including objectives, responsibilities, and timelines).
B. Description of Strategic Planning Process Used.
C. Strategic Analysis Data (external analysis, internal analysis, and list of issues) (from u05a1 I will attach).
D. Goals for Board Committees and Chief Executive Officer.
E. Staffing Plans.
F. Operating Budgets (from u08a1 I will attach)
G. Financial Reports (budgets, statements, etcetera).
H. Monitoring and Evaluation of Plan (criteria, responsibilities, and findings).
I. Communicating the Plan.
Your narrative for this assignment should include the following:
Develop a realistic budget for your chosen organization (from u08a1).
Explain what makes it realistic.
Apply strategic planning theory to your organizational strategic plan (from units 7 and 8 discussions will attach).
Explain which theories are most relevant to your plan, and why they are important.
Assess the mission and vision relationship to expected outcomes for your chosen organization.
SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS

The 6 – 8 page term paper applies the concept of symbolic boundaries to a specific topic. For example, you could explore the construction of boundaries among people who listen to a certain kind of music, or people in a profession, or members of a religion, or people who claim to be from a particular place. Conduct 45 minute to 1 hour interviews of 3 people. If you cannot record the interviews, take notes during the interview.
Use the interviews as data for your paper. Analyze how the people you interview construct symbolic boundaries. Use 3 concepts from at least 2 assigned readings in your paper. The paper should have an argument. Introduce the argument in the first paragraph. Follow the introductory paragraph with a methods section that describes how you selected people to interview and how you conducted the interviews. After that, organize the paper around themes that emerged in your interview. Use the interview data to support your argument. End with a paragraph that summarizes the most important findings of your research and suggests questions for future research related to the topic.
Type the paper using a 12-point font, and use double-spacing. Proofread your paper. Provide an in-text reference including page numbers for any quotation you use from an assigned reading. Number the pages of your paper.

Social Science Question
Pick a developing country and write a country report in which you present your conclusions backed by the evidence you collected. You will need to analyze your findings. What aspects of the systems of colonialism, neocolonialism, and globalization studied appear to explain the country’s development trajectory, and what aspects of these systems fail to explain it and why. Formulate the ways in which these systems shaped the rich artistic and cultural heritage of the nation you selected for the research project.
Step 1: The country that you choose must be a developing country. This means it should come from one of the following regions: Latin America and the Caribbean or Africa.
Step 2: Collect the appropriate data from the three roles in the project.
*Role1 Cultural Historian: You will construct a social and cultural snapshot of the country today: Find data on social and economic indicators for your selected country. What cultural products and cultural related activities are available to promote development? How much of its food does it produce? What are the social and political challenges the country faces today? Is the country experiencing severe inequality? Malnutrition? Rising Covid-19 infections? Political instability?
*Role 2 Economic Historian: Research the country’s economic history, with an emphasis on the period from WWII to the present. Collect data on how integrated it is in the global economy. For example, what does the country export and import? Document what the country imported and exported and how that changed over time. How has over time changed the country’s relationships with foreign capital, foreign investment?
*Role 3 Political Historian: Research the country’s political history from WWII to the present with a focus on how political development is connected to economic development and the distribution of resources. What have been the strategies of the various governments over time concerning development? Which groups have benefited from these various strategies, and which groups have not? Which groups in society have been organized and put pressure on these governments?
Step 3: You will submit a country report that sums up your findings. You must provide evidence to back up your findings (data collected from step 2). It must be twelve to fourteen pages, double-spaced with 1-inch margins on all sides. Choose from step 2 which information is relevant and necessary evidence to support the argument you are making in your country report. The short length of the paper is an opportunity to strengthen your analytical skills and the ability to synthesize information and develop an argument based on it. It also challenges you to present ideas succinctly.

Social Science Question
For this essay you will examine the political and public health dimensions of your community.
To do this, you will need to examine various outlets like social media and local news outlets for specific examples that show what measures your community or state government implemented to address the public health concerns associated with the pandemic as well as what plan your community or state government implemented to reopen the economy after a few months. You should search through various feeds like Twitter, Instagram, and even Facebook (even though young folks don’t use Facebook much, older people who run municipalities and organizations still do.) Most towns have a small local newspaper that uses social media but also has a website where you can read stories. You should also check larger newspapers like the Hartford Courant or New Haven Register (you may need an account to read more than just a few stories). Be prepared to scour these sources going all the way back to February or March 2020.
BE CAREFUL – base your analysis on reliable sources of information. In collecting data for this module you will be more likely to come across sources that are not based on the scientific data. Remember, states only need to have a rational and reasonable basis to believe there’s a public health risk to opening the economy too early or too quickly. There are lots of social media and news outlets basing their opinions on faulty claims and/or conspiracy theories. This is why it’s important to use reliable sources of information.
As you search through social media and local news, be on the lookout for examples showing what the state or local government did to control the outbreak in that area and what the state or local government did to reopen the economy. This is not a referendum on the policies; it’s just an assessment of what was done and not whether it was a good choice or not.
This module focuses more on the role of the local or state government in limiting the further outbreak of this pandemic. It does not focus on the specific economics of those decisions. That will be addressed in the next module.
Your essay should incorporate the following:
A reminder of the name of your community.
A reminder of the demographics of your community (you can use the same demographics data from the last essay unless I suggested you make some changes).
The plan by the state or local government to control the outbreak.
The plan by the state or local government to reopen the economy.
Examples showing those plans in action.
Your initial assessment regarding the effects of those plans.

Social Science Question
One of the goals of the course is to reveal how the law can be used as a mechanism of oppression of already disadvantaged groups which perpetuates the stratification of power. This process becomes evident through case studies of specific legal codes, aspects of the legal process, and other avenues of discrimination that people face within the legal system.
Prompt:
For this paper, I would like you to find your own examples of laws that serve as mechanisms to perpetuate inequality. This inequality could come from the way the law targets certain groups, criminalizes certain behaviors associated with disadvantaged groups, or has a disproportionate negative impact over a given population. Please note, you are not able to use any of the laws that we covered/will cover throughout this course. If you have questions about how well a law could fit, please reach out to myself or our TA.
Requirements:
• Minimum six pages, papers below the minimum will be docked
• MLA or ASA format
• Minimum of six sources and at least three of them have to be academic, only one of your sources can come from the course readings
• Submitted via canvas
• Final draft due by 11:59pm
• Late work subject to penalization unless extenuating circumstances arise
Things to keep in mind:
• Your paper needs to utilize outside research to effectively demonstrate the discriminatory impact of the laws.
• Students can do a deeper dive of a single law or analyze a variety of laws that are similarly situated (for instance the black codes we talked about in class).
• You should provide some context on why the law(s) were created. Was this in response to perceived power gains of a power minority group? What sort of rhetoric was used to justify the need for the law(s)?
• This is a sociology paper, so it should reflect sociological thinking and utilize concepts from the discipline. The reader should have a clear understanding that you have attended class, done the course readings, and have a strong understanding of the course materials.
• The expectations on this paper will be quite high. As a UCD student in an upper division sociology class, you should present a paper that is devoid of grammatical errors, effectively argues your points with evidence to support your claims and should be well articulated and organized. This means that you should have something amazing by the end of the process that you would be proud to show a perspective grad school, future employer, or gam-gam.
Students will be graded on:
• How effectively they demonstrate the impact of the legal code(s)
• Integration of outside sources to support their points
• Utilization of course concepts and perspectives
• Demonstration of an understanding of the sociological perspective
• Clear articulation of their points and organization of their paper
• Following the formatting guidelines and prompt instructions
• How well they make the case that a given law fits as an example of the law being used to perpetuate power inequality

Social Science Question
This assignment is intended to assist you in clarifying ideas about the appropriate data collection plan for your study.
Review your variables (independent, dependent, etc.) and their operational definitions from assignment #2.
Describe the major data collection procedures and provide a copy of the instrument(s) to be used. How will you measure your variables? You can choose
a) a standardized measure for at least one of your variables. Once you’ve identified a standardized measure, list it and address issues of reliability and validity. What indicators (if applicable) of each are reported (Cronbach’s alpha, Pearson product-moment correlation coefficient, etc.), and are they strong enough? In addition, talk about the focus of the questions and whether they follow a certain pattern, and what kind of answers i.e., open-ended, close-ended including Likert scale, yes/no questions, discrete nominal also known as multiple-choice, discrete ordinal for example first, second, third. You can use the in-class exercise as a guide.
b) For those variables where an instrument is not readily available, indicate the concepts that need to be measured and identify how you plan to observe these concepts (e.g., direct observation, self-report [interviews, surveys, etc.], available records). Be sure to identify the level of measurement of your variables (nominal, ordinal, interval, or ratio). Issues of reliability and validity should be addressed for these measures, as well. While you may not be able to cite formal reliability and validity statistics in these cases, you can state how reliability or validity may be compromised, how you would establish reliability and validity, how to face validity is established in your approach, etc. You can use the in-class exercise as a guide.
3. Sampling strategy:
What type of sampling techniques you will be using to collect your data; probability Vs. nonprobability sampling.
Which subtype of probability or nonprobability sampling you will utilize i.e. simple random sample if you are using probability sampling techniques, or quota sampling if you are using nonprobability sampling techniques.
The rationale for your selection. Why did you choose this type of sample and how would it help you collect necessary data from your targeted population and help answer your research question?
The source of your sample, and the number of subjects you will select in your sample.
If you anticipated limitations resulting from using your sampling plan.
Any ethical issues were important to consider in your sampling plan.
Hypothesis: State the hypothesized relationship(s) among the variables in your hypothesis (es).
Important Note: your Research Methodology assignment should be submitted in Word format to your Blackboard using font type Times New Roman, font size (12). Expected Page length (3 – 5 Pages) double spaced excluding cover page and list of references. Make sure to adhere to APA style format and academic writing standards throughout your paper.
Easy vocabulary. no plagiarism because assignment will be submitted via safe-assign software. I will be attaching the textbook which would help with the assignment comprehension. I will also be attaching my literature review, examples, and a similar paper.

nstructions
The goal of this assignment is to create an original statement that vividly describes the methods and philosophies that you would include in teaching by discussing specific strategies and methods that you would use to help a reader take a mental ‘peek’ into your ideal classroom, and to explain why you feel that strategies you will employ are the best strategies for early childhood education using research based evidence.
Today, many educational institutions require a philosophy of teaching from early childhood education instructors. In addition to needing one when applying for a job, articulating one’s approach to education is an excellent idea for teachers. A philosophy of teaching can help an educator clearly define what sort of teacher they want to be and this will help them move forward more easily in their career path. In essence, a philosophy of teaching is a one- or two-page document that expresses an educator’s preferred teaching style, strengths and overall teaching orientation. It is also important for individuals who wish to open their own daycare or preschool as families use a program’s educational philosophy when determining a program for their children.
In this assignment, you will write your own educational philosophy, drawing from the philosophies and information that you have learned about in this course and in previous courses (e.g., the Montessori method, Reggio Emilia approach, Piaget’s theory of constructivism, Lev Vygotsky’s Sociocultural theory) and incorporating your understanding of developmentally-appropriate practice. The document should be clearly written and should showcase the your knowledge about the NAEYC’s (National Association for the Education of Young Children) standards and requirements such as developmentally appropriate practices and ethical responsibilities to children and families. It should also present the underlying philosophy that will guide the your future curriculum choices and classroom management style.
will post some readings to guide making the educational philosophy :
In this assignment you will write an educational philosophy that is at least 700 words. This educational philosophy should be in APA style using 12 point, Times New Roman Font, double-spaced, with 1″ margins. This includes a title page, a running head, and page numbers. If you need help with APA style, this website is a great resource that provides a sample paper you can use a reference. Your philosophy must cover the topics listed below, and include at least 4 different citations to any of the assigned readings in our course, or related research articles and/or book chapters (e.g., the textbook, NAEYC Developmentally Appropriate Practice, the California Learning Foundations/Curriculum Frameworks). These are just examples of sources that can be used. You can use other sources as long as they are credible and research-based (a book chapter, research article, and article by the NAEYC, a textbook). Blogs such as this (Links to an external site.) are not allowed. Please ask Dr. Pronovost if you are unsure of a source.
REQUIREMENTS:
Address all of the following topics in an integrated fashion (i.e., do not simply write a paragraph for each of these):
Discuss/define an early educator’s role: Take some time to clearly explain your ideas about a preschool teacher’s role in the classroom. Include your beliefs about child-led activities vs. teacher-led activities, your philosophy on the teacher’s role in playtime, and the presentation of brand new ideas vs. discoveries the child makes on their own. Consider also including a statement describing your sincere hopes and expectations for the children in your classroom.
Discuss the child’s role as a learner: What is your philosophy regarding how children learn best? What types of activities and opportunities do you believe should be included in the classroom setting in order to facilitate the highest levels of learning for all students, regardless of preferred learning style? How might the child’s role as the recipient of knowledge vary depending upon their preferred learning style? Be sure to include both structured learning activities and open-ended ideas, discussing what you believe is the ideal ratio of both types in the classroom.
Address special needs, different learning styles and diversity in the classroom: Discuss how specifically you will handle different personalities, learning styles, special needs and cultural diversity as you teach different children all in one classroom. Include a statement about how children with special learning needs will be welcomed in your classroom, and your specific strategies for meeting both those needs and the needs of the other students. Embracing diversity is pivotal to creating a warm and welcoming learning environment in today’s classroom. When composing your philosophy of teaching document, you’ll want to be sure you clearly define how you’ll meet a variety of needs.
Define your curricular orientation:Is there a particular educational approach that you identify with (e.g., Reggio Emilia, Montessori). Why do you strive to practice that approach? Map out your curricular orientation, including information about what has led you to form your specific beliefs. However, when you address this step, be careful to not criticize other approaches. Instead, consider connecting the information you provide about your curricular orientation with your previous statements about the role of the teacher in the early childhood education setting (in step 1).
Describe classroom and conflict management: In this section, describe how you approach any behavioral issues that may occur, and why you believe your chosen approach will work. Be very specific; for instance, will you use time-outs or withdrawal of playtime privileges?
Address family inclusion in the classroom: Finally, define how you plan to incorporate parents and other primary caregivers into your classroom. Outline your strategy for keeping parents involved and establishing and maintaining open lines of communication with family members.
A reference page in APA style Cite specific philosophies/approaches (you can cite your textbook), NAEYC standards, and other assigned readings. Include a reference list on a separate page of the educational philosophy statement.
Incorporate at least 4 different credible, research-based sources. These should be cited in the text as well as in the reference page.
Use present tense , and write the statement in the first person (e.g., “I believe…”, “Similar to X, I agree that…”)
Avoid jargon. Use common, everyday language that is accessible to families, not “technical terms”. For instance, do not say “I believe in the Montessori method because it emphasizes developmentally appropriate practice.” Instead say, “Like Maria Montessori, I believe that children learn through natural exploration of the environment around them”

As the world’s population nears 10 billion by 2050, the effects of global warming are stripping some natural resources from the environment. As they diminish in number, developing countries will face mounting obstacles to improving the livelihoods of their citizens and stabilizing their access to enough food. The reason these governments are struggling even now is that our climate influences their economic health and the consequent diminishing living standards of their peoples. Climate changes are responsible for the current loss of biodiversity as well as the physical access to some critical farming regions. As such, these changes in global weather patterns diminish agricultural output and the distribution of food to local and international markets. These difficulties will become even more significant for these countries as the Earth’s climate changes for the worse. Temperatures are already increasing incrementally, and polar ice caps are melting, so the salient question is: what does this suggest for developing societies? The issue before the developing world is not its lack of food, but rather how to gain access to food. Simply put, changes in our climate are affecting the global food chain, and hence, the living standards of entire populations. Added to this is the fact that food is not getting to where it is needed in time to prevent hunger or starvation. In many developing countries, shortages are due to governments’ control over distribution networks rather than an insufficient supply of food itself. In effect, these governments are weaponizing food by favoring certain ethnic or religious groups over others. When added to dramatic climate changes that we are experiencing even now, the future for billions of poor people looks increasingly dim.
Instructions
You are to write a minimum of a 5 page persuasive paper for the UN that addresses the following questions about the relationship between atmospheric weather patterns and food security in the developing world:
Climate change and global warming are often used interchangeably, but they are not the same phenomenon. What are the differences between the two concepts and what leads to the confusion between them?
In 1900, the average global temperature was about 13.7° Celsius (56.7° Fahrenheit) (Osborn, 2021), but as of 2020, the temperature has risen another 1.2°C to 14.9°C (58.9°F). According to the Earth and climate science community, if the Earth’s surface temperature rises another 2°C (3.6°F), we will suffer catastrophic weather patterns that, among other things, will raise sea levels, cause widespread droughts and wildfires, result in plant, insect, and animal extinctions, and reduce agricultural productivity throughout the world (Mastroianni, 2015 and Lindsey & Dahlman, 2020). How much credibility do you place in these projections? Why?
There is no question that the Earth’s food sources are threatened by changes in its weather patterns, but what specific challenges does climate change pose to the food security of people in the developing world?
There is currently a debate among some multinational lending agencies like the International Monetary Fund, UNICEF, and AID over the financial support for food security has been misused by recipient government officials. On the other hand, U.S. authorities insist that misuse of its assistance is not occurring because it has strict monitoring oversight in place. What is your position on this matter? Is there evidence that financial assistance to developing governments is being widely misused by government officials?
Guidelines
This course requires the use of Strayer Writing Standards (SWS). For assistance and information, please refer to the SWS link in the left-hand menu of your course and check with your professor for any additional instructions.
In order to earn full credit, your paper must be divided into at least four full pages of content (one page to address each of the four questions above), and include at least a one-half page introduction and a one-half page conclusion – making a minimum total of five full pages of text.
You must use at least seven credible sources (excluding Wikipedia, dictionaries, and encyclopedias) that are appropriate for the subjects under discussion.
You must use only double-spacing and not place extra spacing between paragraphs or section headings.
The specific course learning outcome associated with this assignment is as follows:
Evaluate the impacts that climate changes are having on the growth of global populations and the security of their food sources.
According to lecture, heterosexual cismen who are more financially dependent on their wives compensate doing a greater relative share of the housework.
Historically, trans exclusionary radical feminists have argued that because of _____________, women who conform to socially prescribed beauty norms will always be “cultural dupes” who are incapable of exerting any agency over their appearance.
Wolkomir’s study highlights that individuals question institutions like marriage when their lived realities do not align with cultural scripts about love.
Heterosexual married couples generally respond to changes in sexual identity according to their material circumstances, while also drawing from scripts which allow them to make sense of experiences with love, marriage, or family.
Male being the “default” gender unless emphasized by markers of emphasized femininity is supported by empirical findings and autoethnographies (ie Lucal) as well as in films Some Like It Hot
Paratextual analyses indicate that Wilder did work previously for the Psychological Warfare Division may have been hinting at some much deeper social processes within Some Like It Hot.
Our cultural toolkit limits men to heterosexuality or to narratives of situational constraint – which require them to draw from certain sexual scripts in order to make sense of their own behaviors
Biases amongst medical professionals contribute to intersectional inequities with accessing healthcare, services/treatments received, and overall experience
According to lecture, stereotypes influence physicians’ decisions about how to test patients for STI’s and whether or not medications like truvada are recommended.
A sex ed discussion which refuses to address how narratives about chem sex relate to hookup culture may be described by all of the following concepts, except:
Sexuality can be understood as a fluid spectrum of play activities, beliefs, and identities which relate to one’s headspace, embodiment, personal/stylistic expression, romantic pursuits, and physical desires.
Hookup culture is based on toxic norms like the Principle of Least Interest – which posits that one retains a greater relative share of power by withholding emotion, communicating the least, and not being the last person to write.
Beyoncé’s identification with “Sascha Fierce” is as example of a deindividuation process known as the adoption of an alien identity – which generally has a permissive effect on behavior.

Assignment: Applying Theoretical Interventions for Clients Experiencing Life Transition and Developmental Issues
Couple and family helping professionals have varying degrees of work. What they all have in common is that their clients represent the variety of human experience. Even those helping professionals with a specific clinical focus see variety in the ways in which specific issues manifest in different relationships. Part of the goal of your program is to expose you to varying scenarios so that when you are faced with differing client situations, you will have the evidence-based research knowledge, flexibility, analytical skills, and theory-integration practice to know the best course of action to take with a particular couple or family.
For this Assignment, select and view one movie from the list provided in this week’s resources below. If you need assistance locating these movies, see this guide: Does the Walden Library have popular films or novels? Begin to conceptualize the couple’s or family’s problem through your theoretical orientation, and identify interventions that you might use. Finally, begin to locate articles in the Walden Library that could be used to justify the interventions you selected.
Demme, J., Armian, N., & Platt, M. (Producers), & Demme, J. (Director). (2008). Rachel getting married [Motion picture]. United States: Sony Pictures Classics.
The Assignment (2–3 pages)
Identify the movie you selected and the life transition and developmental issue present in the couple or family.
Conceptualize the couple’s or family’s problem through your chosen theoretical orientation.
Design a treatment plan including short- and long-term goals.
Explain two evidence-based interventions you would use to address these couple’s or family’s issues and how you would use them.
Note: The interventions may not emerge from your chosen theoretical orientation.
Justify the intervention you selected with two evidence-based research articles.

Ten Building Blocks That Will Help You Outline the Body of Your Speech
Approach Organization Logically – Look for key ideas, patterns, and trends in your research that are supported by examples, quotations, or testimony. Remember the outline is simply a tool for structure and clarity.
Think in terms of the overall plan of your speech – don’t try to fill in all details at the beginning of the process.
Principles of Outlining – Formal outline refers to the body of the speech and informal outline refers to the introduction, conclusion, bibliography
The body should contain between two to four main points or numerals in a 5 to 7 minute speech. (You can google it if you don’t know how many words have a minute of speech. If you see, normally have 150 words each minute. So, in 5 minutes is 750 words, and the two speeches in total should be 1500 words.
Main points in the body should be structures in an organizational sequence that is logical, interesting, and appropriate to the topic.
Chronological Sequence
Spatial Sequence
Topical Sequence
Other Sequences – Problem-Solution, motivation sequence .
A system of Roman Numerals, letters, and Arabic numbers should be combined with indentation to identify main and subordinate levels.
The Outline Should Include Supporting Materials That Are Coordinated and Subordinated in a Logical Manner.
Each Subdivision Must Contain at Least Two Items.
Main Points (Numerals) and Supporting Items Should be Linguistically Parallel.
The Outline Should Identify Sources for Major Supporting Materials. The Outline Should Include External Transitions Between Main Numerals.
Internal transitions (e.g. also, then, next, in addition to, finally) link supporting materials within a subtopic.

This 20-year-old woman left home at the age of 16 because of physical and sexual abuse she suffered from her stepfather. Since leaving home she has connected with a drug supplier, and she have been using and selling drugs, including Oxycontin, some crack cocaine and Ecstasy to people in the neighborhood. She has an iPhone and a long list of clients and transaction dates which she keeps well organized. She drinks about a pint of vodka per day, usually starting in the late afternoon. She uses “Oxy” and cocaine to party. She comes back to her apartment at about 3 am each night and then sleep until 2 pm or so. However, sometimes she wakes up in strange places, and she has no memory of what happened. Last week her clothes were ripped, and she found herself in an abandoned home, and she felt that she had been raped. She went to the Emergency Room, but could not provide a history of the event, so she decided to leave without being seen. She now comes to the Women’s Center to be seen, because she is worried that she has an STD. Alexi is interviewed by a clinician following her intake.

Social Science Question
There is a great deal of mystery surrounding criminal profilers. Until relatively recently, the potential investigative usefulness of criminal profilers, such as their ability to crack cases and help apprehend serial and mass murderers, was not commonly known. In addition, much of what was widely known was garnered from fictional television shows and movies. During the past decade, however, literature has been devoted to examining the role of criminal profilers and how they aid law enforcement in certain cases. Of all the different types of violent and predatory crimes criminal profilers can help with, serial and mass murderer profiling is perhaps the most fascinating. For serial and mass murder cases, criminal profilers use information from crime scenes and empirical research to construct a profile of the murderers. However, criminal profiling has undergone a number of changes in its evolution as a professional field, many of which you consider this week. These changes have had a significant influence on current criminal profiling techniques.
This week, you also become acquainted with the roles and responsibilities of criminal profilers. The most obvious responsibility of a criminal profiler is to develop a profile of a criminal so that law enforcement has a general idea of whom to search for. There are a number of other responsibilities, too, such as providing interviewing strategies during the interrogation of suspects. After reading about the roles and responsibilities of criminal profilers, you might assume that they always create accurate profiles that quickly crack cases. This is not necessarily true. Criminal profiling is part art and part science. Although more and more attempts are being made to steer criminal profiling into a science, there will always be an element of art in criminal profiling. Even the most highly touted criminal profilers are sometimes incorrect in their depictions of perpetrators. Keep in mind that while criminal profilers can be helpful to law enforcement, they are just one resource among many that ultimately lead to the detection and apprehension of serial and mass murderers.
To prepare for this assignment:
Review Chapter 1 of your course text, Profiling Violent Crimes: An Investigative Tool. Pay attention to how criminal profilers use deductive and inductive logic to construct profiles of serial and mass murderers. Also reflect on the goals of criminal profilers and how they aid enforcement in apprehending serial and mass murderers. In addition, consider whether criminal profiling is more of an art or a science.
Review Chapter 2 of your course text, Profiling Violent Crimes: An Investigative Tool. Pay special attention to the section entitled “Profiling in Fact.” Consider how criminal profiling was used in each of these cases.
Read Winerman, L. (2004). “Does profiling really work?” Think about how profiling may help a hinder a criminal investigation.
Think about how the criminal profiles of serial and mass murderers have changed throughout recent history. In doing so, consider how historical profiling practices have influenced current practices.
Think about the roles, goals, and responsibilities of contemporary criminal profilers in criminal investigations.
Consider how profilers, through their roles, goals, and responsibilities, might aid in and impede the detection and apprehension of serial and mass murderers.
The assignment (1–2 pages):
Explain how historical profiling practices have influenced current profiling practices. Be specific.
Briefly describe the roles and responsibilities of profilers in criminal investigations.
Explain how profilers, through their roles, goals, and responsibilities, might aid in and impede the detection and apprehension of serial and mass murderers. Be specific and use examples to illustrate your explanation.

Social Science Question
This section should include:a) a brief description of the practice setting in which your dilemma is embedded.Briefly explain the purpose, sponsorship, and mission of the organization or the specific department/service related to your dilemma; b) clearly identify the specific situation you have chosen to process. It may be a direct practice case, an organizational policy or a social policy dilemma.Explain all relevant facts of the ethical dilemma; and, c) explicitly state the central ethical dilemma(s) involved. That is, frame the dilemma in terms of a conflict of values, rights, or responsibilities. In complex dilemmas, you may also choose to briefly discuss any related ethical issues.
The practice situation should be related to your experiences as a social worker. It may be one of direct practice, program management/ development, or social policy related to social work practice. In other words, the ethical issue may be related to any of the contexts OR systems in which a social worker carries professional responsibility.
Focusing the dilemma – Ethical dilemmas, similar to all dilemmas, present the decision-maker with competing perspectives, which are of proportional or similar worth. The choice that needs to be made is between two or more alternative goods or the avoidance of alternative harms. If the claims of one side are much stronger than the claims of the other side of the dilemma, it is not a true dilemma because the choice is then clear. In order to focus the situation, you need to state the dilemma you are processing in ethical terms. This means, in terms of a conflict of values, a conflict of rights, or a conflict of responsibilities; for example, children’s rights to privacy/confidentiality vs. parents rights to know, OR the responsibility of the organization to provide services consistent with its mission vs. the responsibility of the organization to engage in practices of fiscal restraint, OR worker’s responsibility to the client vs. responsibility to the employing agency. This formulation, then, is the central focus of the ethical dilemma you are processing.

Social Science Question
Class Project 1: Evaluating scientific “facts” in popular culture
Overview
The role of science in our larger political, cultural, and civil society is currently being questioned in real life, and part of the reason why is that it takes more work and expertise to evaluate information than many of us are aware of.
For this assignment, you will write a short (500-750 word) evaluation of a popular source that makes a scientific factual claim by analyzing how the source presents its message, and you will submit a short assignment Cover Letter that explains your process of completing the assignment.
Instructions for the evaluation
Select a source making a factual claim. We will discuss and brainstorm some potential sources in class on Wednesday September 8. You have options for finding such a fact, such as:
A claim made in an advertisement, brochure, label, or website for a product or service
A news piece or social media post
A “factoid” or piece of advice someone shared with you personally
Make sure that the claim you’ve chosen to investigate is being presented as if it were objectively true with no room for subjective interpretation. For example, a cafeteria poster reading “Eat 6-8 servings of veggies a day for a balanced diet” would work as a source, because it makes a claim about specific causes and effects that appeals to objectivity. But one that reads “Eat healthy every day” would not work, because it does not clearly define what “healthy” means, leaving that up to subjective interpretation.
In your essay, examine how your source communicates the factual claim:
Identify what kind of text/source it is
Explain how the source uses particular words, images, or formatting to convince you of the claim it makes
In your essay, examine the reliability of the source:
Does this source present the perspective of an “expert”? What authority is being used to convince you of this claim? How does the source try to convince you to believe the claim?
In your essay, consider how the details you identified above affect the overall reliability of the source. How likely are you to trust this source, based on these details?
Please type your short evaluation in a document (like Microsoft Word or Google Docs), make sure it is double-spaced, and include your name at the top of the document. If you opt to use Google Docs, you may have some issues submitting your work to Canvas — I’ll let you know if its wonky and let you resubmit.
Instructions for your assignment Cover Letter
In addition to your short evaluation, compose a short cover letter that includes short answers to the following questions. This is designed to help you reflect on your experience doing this assignment and to communicate with me. Please provide a heading that says “Cover Letter,” and put your letter first when submitting your assignment. Address all of the following questions for full credit for this portion of the assignment.
Where does your knowledge about science, at this moment in your life, come from (for example: family culture, education, friends and peer networks, social media, college classes, work)? There are many more possibilities and no wrong answers here.
Do you think you had enough knowledge to confidently evaluate your source, or did you feel like you needed more skills or knowledge?
If you had had more time for this assignment, what you would have done with it?
Is there anything else you would like me to know?
Submitting your Assignment
Please turn in your Cover Letter and evaluation as a single document into this portal on Canvas.
Keep in mind
You should NOT include any outside research for this assignment. Just focus on evaluating the one popular source that is making the claim.
You do NOT need to reference any course materials for this assignment.
Due Date
This assignment is due on Canvas by midnight on Wednesday Sept 22. The 48-hour no-permission-needed extension is in effect for this assignment. If you need time beyond that, please be in touch to ask for an extension.
Learning Goals
Take stock of what you already know about science
Identify scientific claims in popular sources
Evaluate the reliability of popular sources making scientific claims
Understand that science is embedded in larger cultural discourses that directly impact your education and career
Demonstrate your ability to meet Part 1.1, Part 1.3, and Part 1.4 of the Course Learning Objectives
Evaluation
A full rubric for evaluation will be posted in the module for this assignment on Canvas. You will be evaluated on:

Social Science Question
Keep in mind
You should NOT include any outside research for this assignment. Just focus on evaluating the one popular source that is making the claim.
You do NOT need to reference any course materials for this assignment.
Evaluation
A full rubric for evaluation will be posted in the module for this assignment on Canvas. You will be evaluated on:
Your focus throughout the evaluation on specific details of your chosen source and your direct connection of those details to your evaluation of the source’s reliability
Whether you have chosen a source making a factual claim that appeals to objectivity
Your ability to stay within the assigned length
Your ability to write cleanly and without many typos and spelling errors (enlist your study pals and friends to help catch stuff!)

Social Science Question
Community Education and Advocacy
Community education and advocacy are both important components of the work that human service professionals do with children and their families. Both types of interventions play important roles in working with this population. For this assignment, you have the opportunity to choose a social issue that impacts children and their families and discuss the influence of both advocacy and community education on the issue that you identify.
Assignment Directions
Please be sure to address all of the following in your assignment:
Identify a social issue that impacts children and their families, and provide some background about the issue (who is impacted, how many people, and so forth).
Some examples of social issues that you could choose include, but are not limited to, child abuse and neglect, teenage pregnancy, and homelessness.
Analyze two different ways that a human service professional could advocate for the social issue you discussed.
Define community education and examine how a human service professional would utilize community education as a strategy for the social issue chosen. Specifically, examine what methods you might utilize to provide community education about the topic selected.
Some examples include workshops, newspaper, media, etc.
Analyze the effectiveness of advocacy and community education for the social issue that you discussed. In your answer, be certain to indicate if you think advocacy or community education is more effective for the social issue. If you think they are both effective, be sure to indicate how and why.
Identify an organization that provides advocacy for the social issue you have discussed and an organization that provides community education related to the issue. In your answer, be certain to examine whether or not you think the organizations are effective and if you would change or add anything related to their advocacy or education services.
Your assignment should be a 3- to 4-page expository essay

Social Science Question
INSTRUCTIONS: In the paper, you address the following questions with regards to the one country you are assigned to explore for your paper: you have to (1) identify and explain what criminal justice model the country uses, including what law family it belongs to and what type of criminal procedure it uses, (2) describe the similarities and differences between this country’s criminal justice system and that of the USA, (3) evaluate its strengths and weaknesses with regards to all the following: law enforcement, criminal procedure, courts, sentencing and corrections, (4) discuss how it could be improved, and (5) argue how it could inform improvement of criminal justice systems elsewhere. The answers to these different questions have to be supported by peer-reviewed scientific journal articles. The references need to be included in the full reference list and have to be accurately cited in the text as well! You need to demonstrate where in your text you use them, if not they will not count towards the paper requirements, even if you include them in the full reference list.
o OBJECTIVE: This paper allows you to demonstrate that you understand and are able to critically discuss the criminal justice system in a country other than the USA and the six model nations discussed in the textbook, compare it with other criminal justice systems, and assess its strengths and weaknesses in relation to law enforcement, criminal procedure, courts, sentencing and corrections. In order to do so, you need to make use of scientific literature.
o FORMAT:
▪ All written assignments are to have a cover sheet identifying your name and Student ID, title, word count, name of the course, day and time of the class, instructor’s name, and due date of the assignment.
▪ In the paper, include an introduction (what is it you are addressing in the paper and what are the main points in the discussion?), the discussion of your findings (what did you find in the literature in response to the assigned questions?) and a conclusion (this is not a summary of your findings but a critical reflection on your findings in response to the assigned questions).
▪ Enter the references in a reference list at the end of your paper. Include only the references that you have incorporated in the text – do not include any sources that you have read but not used in your paper. References need to also be cited in your text in order to count!
▪ Please note that the cover sheet and reference list do NOT count towards the word limit.
o USE OF REFERENCES: The paper must have a minimum of three (3) peer-reviewed scientific references (peer-reviewed scientific journal articles, chapters in scientific books- your textbook also counts).
▪ Newspaper articles, news site entries, blogs, or websites (governmental website, website for an organization) are not academic references. You can use them, but they will not count towards the referencing requirements for the paper.
▪ Do NOT use Wikipedia, Encyclopedia Britannica or other similar encyclopedia-type websites in your paper. You can explore key concepts on them, but will then have to find scholarly references (e.g. articles in scientific peer-reviewed journals) to explain these concepts and use in the paper.
▪ Do not copy anything from an online source into your paper without citing it in yourtext!
▪ Paraphrase rather than using long quotes from a source. The purpose of the assignment is for you to demonstrate that you understand and can apply the material.
▪ You have to reference all your sources in the text ánd in the reference list.
o WORD COUNT: The paper should have a word count of 1500 words, with a 100-word margin either way.
▪ The cover sheet (including your name and student ID, word count, name of the course, day and time of the class, instructor’s name, due date of the assignment) and reference list do not count towards the word count!
▪ Please note that you will be penalized for not respecting the word count.
▪ For a paper that is LESS than 1400 words (not including cover page and references), the highest score you can get is a D!
▪ For a paper that exceeds the word limit of 1600 words (not including cover page and references), the highest score you can get is a B! (This limit forces you to be precise, concise and to the point – there is no room for fluff and waffling.

Social Science Question
The summary should be 250 and each box 50. I need help with topic 5 & 6
identifying and utilizing quality developmentally appropriate resources and technology will enhance learning opportunities and increase retention of information for early childhood students. Educators must evaluate and select developmentally appropriate resources based on research and knowledge of student needs, capabilities, and interests. A knowledgeable educator will anticipate challenges and problems that may arise when implementing the resources and technology in the classroom and will proactively find solutions to avoid those challenges.
For this assignment, you will use the standards and objectives from Topic 3 to complete the “Instructional Design Topic 5: Integrating Resources and Technology” section of the “Instructional Design Unit” template. Select four developmentally appropriate resources, per grade band, that will support each objective. One of the resources should be technology-based. In 50-100 words per resource, provide the following:
A rationale for each selected resource
How it supports developmentally appropriate practice
Possible challenges that may arise with each resource, and strategies to overcome those challenges
In a 250-500 word summary, discuss the benefits of using technology to support learning in early childhood education classrooms. What are the drawbacks and how can you plan for these ahead of time?
Support your response with 2-3 scholarly resources.
Educators want to help their students master each objective. To accomplish this, they need to assess students before, during, and after the lesson to ensure progress, and consider the steps necessary to master the objective and design assessments to monitor progress.
For this assignment, you will use the standards and objectives from Topic 3 to create two developmentally appropriate formative assessments to assess student progress for each standard/objective. Complete the “Instructional Design Topic 6: Re-assessing and Data Collection” section of the “Instructional Design Unit” template.
In 50-100 words per assessment, explain how each formative assessment is aligned to the standard/objective and how it is developmentally appropriate. Revise the summative assessments you created in Topic 3, if necessary, to include modifications you would need to make to meet the needs of all students (visual, auditory, sensory).
In a 250-500 word summary, explain how progress monitoring ensures success for all students.
Support your response with 2-3 scholarly resources.
APA style is not required, but solid academic writing is expected

This module focuses on the documentary film Class Dismissed and David Simon’s The Wire.
Focusing first on Class Dismissed, answer the following questions:
What is the thesis of the film?
How does the film support its thesis?
Have you watched any of the programs that are examined in Class Dismissed?
When you watched these programs, did you notice (consciously or perhaps unconsciously) the themes pointed out by the documentary?
If you did not, why do you think they escaped your notice? If you did, how did your awareness affect your enjoyment of the program(s)?
Note: Because Class Dismissed was produced in 2005, it looked at programs that had been broadcast up to that date. Remember to keep your focus on the thesis of the documentary and its overview of television history, rather than on the age of the programs that are examined.
Turning next to The Wire, address these questions:
What, according to David Simon (in his interview with Bill Moyers), is the central theme or thesis of The Wire?
If The Wire were included in Class Dismissed, would it support or invalidate the film’s main arguments?
Why or why not?
The narrator (Ed Asner) of Class Dismissed says at the beginning of the film that “because we see television as just entertainment, we readily disregard its impact on our thinking.”
At the end of your semester of studying television, what do you think of this statement?
Why?
Your discussion needs to demonstrate an organized, clear understanding of the main points of Class Dismissed and the Simon-Moyers interview.

Assignment: Outlining a Logic Model
undefined
A logic model is a tool that can be used in
planning a program. Using a logic model, social workers can
systematically analyze a proposed new program and how the various
elements involved in a program relate to each other. At the program
level, social workers consider the range of problems and needs that
members of a particular population present. Furthermore, at the program
level, the logic model establishes the connection between the resources
needed for the program, the planned interventions, the anticipated
outcomes, and ways of measuring success. The logic model provides a
clear picture of the program for all stakeholders involved.
To
prepare for this Assignment, review the case study of the Petrakis
family, located in this week’s resources. Conduct research to locate
information on an evidence-based program for caregivers like Helen
Petrakis that will help you understand her needs as someone who is a
caregiver for multiple generations of her family. You can use the NREPP
registry. Use this information to generate two logic models for a
support group that might help Helen manage her stress and anxiety.
First,
consider the practice level. Focus on Helen’s needs and interventions
that would address those needs and lead to improved outcomes. Then
consider the support group on a new program level. Think about the
resources that would be required to implement such a program (inputs)
and about how you can measure the outcomes.
By Day 7
Submit the following:
A completed practice-level logic model outline (table) from the Week 7 Assignment handout
A completed program logic model outline (table) in the Week 7 Assignment Handout
2–3 paragraphs that elaborate on your practice-level logic model
outline. Describe the activities that would take place in the support
group sessions that would address needs and lead to improved outcomes
2–3 paragraphs that elaborate on your program-level logic model and address the following:
Decisions that would need to be made about characteristics of group membership
Group activities
Short- and long-term outcomes
Ways to measure the outcomes
