Prompt

What are your personal or professional goals? What are you passionate about? What are some of the issues present in the field you want to enter? Once you have thought about these questions, you need to take a stance, take action, conduct research, and enter the conversation.

For this assignment you will research, and write an essay on your topic of choice. You will also be required to prepare a presentation of your work for the class. Projects should reflect your knowledge of the chosen topic, and use rhetorical strategies appropriate for a specific intended audience. This project should be presented in a genre that is appropriate to a business or professional audience and reflect that audience’s expectations for formatting, source documentation, graphics, and style.

In order to approach this broad assignment, find a problem, question, or new development to focus on.

For Example:

Problem: Screen time is a growing issue in the US.

  • Oftentimes, a problem-focused research paper will first prove/explain the issue, then give a solution, or mention potential solutions.

Question: What are the ethical implications of replacing workers with robots?

  • A question driven research paper will provide multiple answers to the question, and then give an overall evaluation of the topic.

New Development: Advances in online educational platforms make it easier for people in remote locations to access university level courses.

  • When presenting a new development, explain the potential impacts (both positive and negative) in order to demonstrate why it matters.

Research Project

The purpose of this presentation is to demonstrate an understanding of experimental design. In addition, the student should demonstrate an understanding of the physiological rationale behind their research question.

There are three sections within this project,

1. Powerpoint presentation addressing the topic that will be added within this question labeled “Proposal Outline.” It needs to address everything in the file named “presentation rubric” and has to belong and be detailed to the point where it can be presented for ten minutes worth. Also, if more information is needed beyond the “proposal outline” file, then you must be creative and logical when adding additional info. Just be creative and make sure it makes sense.

2. A Mock Grant Application needs to be completed which is addressing the topic within the “proposal outline.” You can follow files named “mock grant project 2021” and the “blank ACM,” as within this file is where you will be filling it out. There is also a great example named “Part AACSM 2016 example” which you can follow for further guidance to complete this. I will also be adding a file named “2021 RESUME” and you may follow this when inputting my credentials and such. You may have to reach out for further information about me and I am more than welcome to answer you. Please ask me if you need anything at all as communication is probably going to be needed for the completion of this section.

3. A informed consent form needs to be created addressing the topic within the “proposal outline.” You may use the files labeled “template for informed consent” and “informed consent example” as you will be using the template to complete the informed consent form, and the example for guidance. You are also allowed to copy and paste from the example to your informed consent form if applicable as a lot of the wordings are verbatim of what you will be needing to write in your consent further.

Overall, this is a detailed-oriented project and requires much attention to detail as the information regarding the outline and what you add further, using your imagination to expand further on the topic if applicable, needs to translate across the PowerPoint, the mock grant application, and the informed consent form. You can fabricate many things such as addressing why you want to do the project, what you will do with the extra funds, etc. However, if you need any further assistance, please reach out as you have a lot of time to communicate with me and clear any confounding factors if necessary.

Research Project

In the last 20 years, many states when faced with increased demand for transportation facilities, have implemented novel congestion pricing strategies.

These strategies include:

*HOT lanes,
*Express lanes,
*Cordon Pricing, etc.

For this project you are to conduct research, on congestion pricing strategies , in the USA.

You are to select a congestion pricing facility, and research pricing, strategies in USA.

You are to select a congestion pricing facility of your choice, and research the answer to the following questions:

1. What type of pricing strategy is used on/by the facility? (Transportation charges for
2. Is the pricing dynamic or static?
3. How often is the price updated?
4. How is Value of Time (VOT) calculated for this facility? (Plot a graph)
6. What time of day is the price Highest? Lowest?
7. Develop a pricing scheme, which you believe will reduce travel time, for the facility. (Show your analysis, of why, this scheme will work.)

Once you have chosen your research area, write a one page proposal on the area your choice and explain how you will go about this reasearch. Questions like: what area has any or all of the different strategies: Hov lanes; Hot lanes; Express lanes; and Condon pricing. Which will you choose, based on what is being used in you town or city? How would you charge for these travelling opportunities. How can it alleviate congestion, for your city or state, in the United States. These are only suggestions. Please use the requirements in your research. (The 7 Questions, listed)
