Reflection Paper

I’m trying to study for my Writing course and I need some help to understand this question.

One of the course objectives is to provide students with an understanding of the how to apply constitutional laws and cases to everyday situations seen within the American criminal justice system. As such, you will be required to write a 3-4 page (maximum 4 pages) reflection paper on the topic below.

Topic: Students will conduct research and write a detailed analysis on a current or recent event of the student’s choice that has had or will have a substantial impact on the criminal justice system. Students may choose to report on any event taking place in the United States from the past 5 years that relates to the subject matter discussed in the textbook or through lecture and discussion this semester. Discuss the role of major criminal justice system actors in the reported event and their impact in the events referenced in your given topic. If you would like to write about more than one event, you’re welcome to do so. Should you identify two events that you would like to write about that correlate with one another, remember to cite your sources and give detailed analysis showing how the topics relate to one another and to the course subject matter. You are strongly encouraged to seek out court actors identified in the text (e.g. attorneys, judges, law enforcement officers, detectives, court clerks, and paralegals) to glean their opinions and perspectives on your chosen topic. Interviews must be properly cited.

Format: Papers must be between 3-4 pages (maximum 4 pages), double-spaced, 1” margins, 12pt. Times New Roman font. The use of footnotes will be required for citation throughout the paper. You must also include a References page citing your sources and a cover page, neither of which can be included in your final page count. All information must be cited with a source. Any uncited information will be considered PLAGIARISM, resulting in an automatic failing grade. Plagiarism is a serious academic offense and will not be taken lightly. Each paper must cite at least 3 sources using MLA format. Feel free to use additional sources beyond the minimum requirement. Grading: Grades will be based on actual analysis used, correct usage of citation, spelling, grammar, proper formatting, writing style, synthesis of a new idea and overall quality. The official grading rubric is available on Canvas in the Reflection Paper assignment.
