Ambulatory Surgery Centers are facilities in which certain surgeries can be performed and hospital admission is not required. Procedures in an ASC tend to be more cost-effective and convenient than in a hospital. The policies and procedures that would be relevant in an ASC include: patient consent and preoperative assessment guidelines, sedation, emergency/crash cart, sterilization, hand hygiene, fall prevention, medication management and discharge post-procedure.

Behavioral Health/Addiction Treatment Centers are facilities providing services that include assessment and referral, medically supervised withdrawal management, inpatient-to-outpatient treatment, counseling and aftercare. Specific policies and procedures will include staff training for de-escalation tactics, medication administration, and HIPAA policies for release of sensitive PHI. Policies regarding patient restraints and admission/discharge/re-admission and procedures for patient observation and urine drug testing are also likely.
