- by Toni Belch Number of replies: 1Amazon has announced that its Alexa can begin helping healthcare providers and people in care facilities. The new properties will supposedly help with workers time, care, and resources in the facility. Alexa can be customized to a residents liking by sharing their music choice, favorite news channels and even enabling them to call family members. It will also allow residents and staff to communicate better with each other using the Drop-In or Call feature. While I don’t work in a health-care facility, I do however have an elderly grandmother. She has had accidents where she needed to get in touch with emergency responders or a close family member to come over and help, but she couldn’t at the time. If providing her with an Alexa can keep her in contact with me or another family member then I’m all for it. For instance, if she falls and gets injured and can’t get to the phone she can easily tell Alexa to call for help. I can also be more at ease knowing I can use the Drop-In feature whenever just to check on her to make sure she’s doing okay. As with nursing homes, I’m sure it would make it easier on the staff. Instead of running to each and every room “checking in,” they could just use the Drop-In feature to check on them. Then they could use the rest of the time prioritizing other patients needs. by Zaniyah Riddick Number of replies: 1The technology innovation I’m going to talk about is the new iPad mini that Apple recently released. The article talks about how the iPad mini is not a step down from a regular iPad because the software actually makes it better. It has the same chip as the iPhone 13 and has the same features as both the iPad air and iPad pro which makes it way more valuable. Due to the iPad mini getting many upgrades it’s not able to be compared to the larger models such as the iPad air. It has enhanced capabilities of the IpadOS but is smaller instead of bigger.I currently have an iPad that is very useful to me especially when I use it for school work. The only con is that it is big, I can’t take it everywhere I go because of its size. The new iPad mini will be very helpful because it’s smaller and has all the capabilities of a regular sized iPad. This was a major improvement by Apple and I believe that a lot of people will get it because of the new upgrades. I don’t just use my iPad for entertainment purposes but to help me with work and because the iPad mini comes with features other than entertainment purposes It will be very helpful to many other people.

SMART Fridge? How about a “smart” userby Tamara Allen – Friday, October 29, 2021, 11:13 AMNumber of replies: 0I am truly done. A refrigerate that has the capability of tracking and restocking as well as identifies “expire” items is beyond “Back to the Future” technology. The article also says the refrigerate is able to make recipe suggestions too. With great features like these, its no wonder that all the major brands want to implement these features on their product. Mello added that automation “requires a heavy investment in technology” according to a senior analyst (2021). Refrigerators are not the only kitchen appliance that has smart technologies employed. Dishwashers will also have a replenishing feature. The question of which company, Walmart or Amazon, will win the share of the grocery market that can handle the restocking feature this technology offers. Understanding the customer preferences is the biggest hurdle needed to cross to leverage the competition between the two. It would seems that Amazon has an advantage with their “Buy it Again” feature they already offer to their customers as well as a perfect fit for their “smart home portfolio” (2021). Mello add that the “pandemic has had a positive impact on the smart appliance market” and the lockdown has caused many consumers to embrace the “idea of the conveniences that smart appliances can deliver” (2021).I don’t know it this is genius, lazy, or an attempt to monitor every aspect of our lives. There have been a number of times I have gone to the grocery without a list only to get home and realize I forgot something. Hence, I can see accepting this technology. Convenience seems to be the reason for a number of technology enhancements. However, until my current refrigerator fails me, I am not willing to purchase this convenience. It might also tell me that I do not need that “sugar” confection. Mello, Jr. J. (2021). “Amazon super smart fridge is reportedly in the works”. Technewsword.
