Assignment Instructions Research Paper: Each student will be required to complete the term project which is an10 – 15 page APA Style paper. Your paper should have at least 10 full (not partial) pages of substance not counting the cover and reference pages. Please be sure that your paper is a Word Document (.doc) uploaded to the assignment section as an attachment. Students will be required to use at least six (6) scholarly – peer reviewed – sources. Students have access to peer reviewed sources through the APUS library. This is the absolute minimum and additional resources are encouraged to improve your work and impact your grade. Of course additional references do not have to be peer reviewed articles from the library but they should be, or at least from credible sources. The paper is due on Sunday at the end of Week 7, one week before the end of the course, to allow sufficient time for review, comments, and grading. Students are required to follow APA Style guidelines for the format of the paper and for the in-text citations and reference page. Guidance is provided in the classroom. Use the General Forums and Student Info Folder in the Resources section of class. The writing rubric (see below) will be used to grade your work. Please make sure that you are using the writing rubric as a checklist for all your academic writing in this class and throughout your educational experience at AMU. The title for the paper will be: Development and Challenges of Community Policing Critically assess academic literature on the subject. I am looking for critical thinking and a clear indication that you have a grasp of the literature. Do not include numerous or long quotes in your work. I want to see your critical thinking skills on display and not a string of quotes written by published authors. Your analysis is what is needed for a successful paper. As a general rule no more than 5% of an academic paper should be quoted material. At this point in your educational journey you should have solid substance and proper academic formatting in your college level writing assignments. Students will be graded on both so make sure you turn in your best work. Do not wait to the last minute to research, write drafts, format, and edit. Proper time management is required to turn in a quality paper that highlights your criminal justice writing. This is a major assignment worth 20% of your final grade so follow the instructions carefully.
