  1. What steps do you plan to take to transition your paper to a presentation?
    1. I plan to use slides/powerpoint to discuss my main argument, the solution, and the key factors to help better explain my research. My topic focuses on the rising rate of alcoholism in the U.S. Therefore, my transition would be to state my argument, explain why and how alcoholism is a growing danger, discuss the reasons why its prevalence keeps growing, and what the solution is.
  2. Which key ideas will you focus on?
    1. Scientific perspective – what is alcoholism and what does it affect?
    2. Mathematical – its prevalence in the United States
    3. Ethical – the laws that “help” control
    4. Cultural – alcohol glorification through media
  3. What questions do you have about using Kaltura for your presentation?
    1. Is there any other program I can use to record my video? I always have some sort of technical issue when I use Panopto.
  4. What recording device will you use?
    1. I plan to use my laptop’s webcam.
  5. Share some tips and tricks you have learned for delivering a powerful presentation.
    1. Although this is now a virtual setting, maintaining eye contact with the webcam would help convey the point of your presentation to more of a personal level. It keeps the audience attentive.
  6. How confident are you presenting your paper via video? Explain.
    1. I would say that I am more confident than I usually am because I have the ability to retake the video again and again until I am pleased with the outcome. Additionally, I am in the comfort of my own home.
  7. What are your strengths and weaknesses when it comes to giving video presentations?
    1. One strength of mine is creating simple, yet engaging slides. I do not cram a lot of information into one slide. Instead, I speak about it. One weakness I still have is talking too fast when I am nervous. When I realize the amount of time I have left because I went through a single portion too quickly, I ramble off trying to make up for the time I have left.
  8. How will you maximize your strengths?
    1. I need to keep in mind that my biggest judge is myself. There is no reason to doubt myself because I know what I am talking about. To help with presenting, I plan to practice

  • What steps do you plan to take to transition your paper to a presentation?

I plan to review my final paper and pinpoint the main ideas. I will separate each main idea by slides and make sure the information is clear and straight forward. Most important I’ll make sure my argument gets addressed and has supportive evidence.

  • Which key ideas will you focus on?

My papers topic was type 2 diabetes and ways to prevent it. I’ll be focusing on understating what type 2 diabetes is, what to look for, ways to prevent it, treatment once developed, and complications.

  • What questions do you have about using the technology for your presentation?

If the presentation needs to be presented in a power point format, if so, how many slides, is it possible I can see myself when recoding on Panopto as oppose to just the power point. How can I know how long I been talking for when presenting?

  • What recording device will you use?

I’ll be using my MacBook Pro and Panopto software recording.

  • Share some tips and tricks you have learned for delivering a powerful presentation.
    • Be prepared
    • Be confident
    • Look at the camera and avoid looking around
    • Don’t read word by word on the power point slides
    • Speak clearly and not too fast
    • Most of all don’t forget to BREATH!!!!
  • How confident are you presenting your paper via video? Explain.

As of right now not to confident, I need to practice over and over my topic to make sure I get all my main points addressed and make sense of what I’m saying. I tend to speak really fast when nervous.

  • What are your strengths and weaknesses when it comes to giving video presentations?

Strength: Knowing I can do multiple videos and upload the one I think is the best.

Weakness: When it comes to speaking in front of people or in this case in front of a camera I get nervous and I begin to stutter, or I speak really fast just to finish and get it over with.

  • How will you maximize your strengths?

First of all, I plan to take a deep breath before I start recording. After, I plan to be prepared and confident with my topic, so I don’t forget to mention any important points.
